In short. BloodShare uses your details to connect blood donors with people who need blood. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not share your information with advertisers. Your phone number is shown only to someone whose request you have been accepted for. You can change your details, stop our emails, or delete your account at any time.
1. Who we are
BloodShare (bloodshare.in) is a free service in India that helps people who need blood find donors nearby. It is run by the BloodShare team (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who can see it, and what choices you have. It applies to the BloodShare website and to the emails and notifications it sends.
For any question about your data, write to sreeramaravind84@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
When you sign in
You sign in with your Google account. Google tells us your name and email address. We never see or store a password.
Your donor profile
| Information | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Blood group | To show you requests you can help with, and to alert you about them |
| Phone number | So a requester you have been accepted for can reach you |
| Date of birth | To check the age rules for donating (18 to 65) and to wish you on your birthday |
| PIN code (permanent address), and an optional present-address PIN | To find requests near you. From the PIN we work out your district and state |
| Whether you are available, and whether you allow direct requests | To respect your choices about being contacted |
| Gender and the date you last donated (asked when you first pledge) | Donation gaps differ by gender, so we need both to apply the rules correctly |
Your location, only if you choose
If you tap “Use my current location” on your profile, your browser shares one reading with us. We round it to about 1 km before saving it, use it only to match you with nearby requests, and never show it to anyone. We do not track you over time. You can clear it at any time from the same page.
Health questions when you pledge
Before you offer to donate we ask a short list of yes/no questions (for example about recent illness, medicines, vaccines or alcohol). We use your answers once, to decide whether you can pledge, and we do not store them. We store only that you passed, the time, and the version of the rules used. This is a self-check, not medical advice. The blood centre does the real medical check.
Requests you post
The patient’s name, age, gender and blood group, the reason, the hospital, the date and time needed, how many units, the contact name and phone number you enter, and any notes.
What you do on BloodShare
Your pledges and how they ended (for example accepted, donated, cancelled), any one-line note you write if a donation is disputed, and the notifications we send you.
Email records
A record of each alert email we send you, with whether it was delivered, and whether you have unsubscribed or an address has bounced, so that we do not email you again.
Technical information
- Cookies that keep you signed in and protect forms (a session cookie and a security cookie), and a short-lived cookie that shows the “signed out” message.
- Your browser remembers your scroll position on the feed for the current tab only.
- Our servers keep ordinary access logs: your IP address, the page requested and the time.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
3. How we use it
- To match donors with requests, and to tell nearby donors when a matching request is posted, in the app and by email.
- To let a requester contact a donor they have accepted.
- To keep the service safe and fair, for example by limiting how many requests one person can post a day.
- To show overall totals on the Impact page. Those are counts only, for example donations by district, and contain no names.
4. Who can see what
| Information | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Your name and blood group | The requester, when you offer to donate to their request |
| Your phone number | Only the requester of a request you have been accepted for. Not shown to other members, and never put in an email or notification |
| Your PIN codes and any shared location | No other member. They are used only inside the app to match you |
| Your date of birth, gender and last donation date | No other member |
| A request you post, including the patient’s name, the hospital, and the contact name and phone number you enter | Any signed-in BloodShare member. Please enter only details you are comfortable with members seeing. We plan to let you limit the contact number to donors you accept |
| Alert emails | Only you. They contain the blood group, hospital, area and needed-by time, but never a patient’s name or any phone number |
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers, and we never will. We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Sign-in. Also, on the request form, the hospital search box sends what you type to Google Maps (Places) to suggest hospitals | |
| Amazon Web Services | Hosts BloodShare on servers in Mumbai, India, and sends our email through Amazon SES |
| Content delivery networks (Tailwind, jsDelivr, Google Fonts) | Deliver page styling and fonts. They can see your IP address and browser type when a page loads, as any website you visit does |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
6. How long we keep it
- Your profile and activity are kept while your account exists.
- The map coordinates Google gives us for a hospital are deleted after 30 days, as Google’s terms require. We keep only the hospital’s place ID and its PIN-based location.
- A location you shared is kept until you clear it or change your address.
- If you unsubscribe, or an address bounces, we keep that fact so we do not email you again.
- You can delete your account yourself at any time, from Edit Profile → Delete my account. It happens straight away: we delete your profile and personal data, and the requests you posted are deleted or anonymised, as you choose. Donations you made stay counted for the people you helped, without your name. If you email us instead (section 8), we do the same within 30 days.
7. Health information
Your blood group is health-related information. We use it only to match you with requests, and we do not share it with advertisers or anyone outside the providers listed above. We do not store your answers to the pledge health questions (section 2).
8. Your choices and rights
- See and change your details: Profile, then Edit profile.
- Pause alerts: mark yourself as unavailable.
- Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. It takes effect straight away and does not need you to sign in.
- Direct requests: you can turn them off in your profile.
- Clear your shared location: Profile, then Edit profile.
- Access, correct or delete your data, or withdraw your consent: email sreeramaravind84@gmail.com from the address on your account. This is also where to send any complaint about how we handle your data.
9. Children
You must be at least 13 to create an account. People under 18 may have an account, for example to post a request for a relative, but cannot offer to donate: pledging is limited to ages 18 to 65.
10. Security
BloodShare uses HTTPS, Google sign-in (so there are no passwords to steal from us), and access controls on our servers. We are an early-stage service, and no system is perfectly secure, so please share only what you are comfortable sharing.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For a significant change we will also tell signed-in members in the app.
